SuperFly is dead...
This is kind of an old news release aka no surprise because once again Nike has released yet another color way of the superfly/vapor series and this time it is a grape/dark purple paint job that almost reminds me of purple drink.
I will never forget when I interviewed for a job at Nike for a soccer merchant position and one of the guys asked me what I thought about the superfly... I made the statement that probably shocked the room but I told them that the superfly was dead! He asked dead? I told him almost two years to today that the boot was dead and at one point there was a market for this crazy concept boot/price point but Nike sat on the boot/concept for too long and what was once a concept/crazy idea is now more of a market gimmick with a price point consumers now seem to laugh at.
Do not get me wrong, the superfly WAS an amazing boot but over time Nike sat on the boot for too long and rather then innovate the boot even more and change the boot they changed the paint job of the boot which let's be honest just gives the soccer poseurs another color way to buy/collect.
Never the less, here are teaser images of the next SuperFly color way. The boots drop 1/1/2012 and will have the same price tag aka $400 so start saving your money if you like purple drank!

Newest SuperFly Color ways Released
Nike have recently released two new color ways in the SuperFly, which has come at a great time due to the events at hand such as the Gold Cup and the Copa America tournament which are watched by many people around the world because many of the domestic leagues have finished. With these two releases Nike like usual has gone bold with the flash orange and the granite/metallic color way.
I am a fan of both color ways and think both boots will stand out on the pitch. However, before you buy these boots i must warn you that they are very narrow, have a high price point, and are extremely stiff due to the carbon fiber out sole.
For many consumers, including myself I believe the once concept boot known as the superfly is dead. Nike have relied on a change of color and different market tactics in the past couple of months to try to excite fans but many Mercurial fans want something more without the market gimmicks such as the sense studs and they want something that is more innovative and lighter with a better price point. I have heard that the next Vapor will really take the cake and is released Spring 2012 which is right around the corner.

SUPERFLY III PICTURES.
With many Vapor fans wanting more then some new flashy colors you have to admit when you see the new mercurial series in person or on the pitch the boots/color ways looks awesome. For example, I was coaching this weekend and a kid on the other team had the new Vapors and they looked great on the pitch. In adition, many people have been wondering if these boots were going to be made specifically for cr7 but thanks to a follower of Footy Guru i have been sent pictures of the next signature boot for cr7. The boot below is the superfly III that many footy fans believed to be cr7 next boot but this is just a new color way already available on Nikeid.

Be Fast. Be Seen. Be Superfly.
This past weekend, Nike released the concept boot that even though might not be the lightest boot on the pitch, will definitely turn heads and give adidas some competition. With this release, which seems to have come out of thin air, Nike released the seventh generation of the Mercurial Series called the “MERCURIAL VAPOR SUPERFLY III”. With the Mercurial series, Nike has changed the game of football and how we think about boots on the pitch. From the first generation all the way to this release Nike’s goal has always been to deliver a fast, lightweight, performance/enhancing concept boot that enables players to have an edge on the pitch.
Key Questions regarding price and release date:
Is the boot still a whopping $400.00= YES
Release date= AVAILABLE for Pre-order on March 19th
Changes to the Super Fly III?
Unfortunately, not a lot has changed technology wise with the Superfly III; however the new boots do come with a new color/design. The new florescent lighting bolt design is designed to highlight players on the pitch. The pattern along with the vibrant colors are put together to enhance visibility on the pitch so your teammates can find you. Furthermore, this new design which is what many fans were treated too at the World Cup aka the Nike Elite Series World Cup boots will enable your teammates to see you better on the pitch and allow them to make quicker decisions when playing the ball. According to Nike “The result will be better passes, fewer offsides and less time for defenders to react.” (Nike Soccer)
New Nike Boots for 2011
Nike is set to release their next wave of color ways for this spring. The different silo's include the super fly III, Tiempo Elite III, and the T90 Laser III. All boots will come in the regular version as well as the elite version which features the carbon fiber outsole. As a football fan i am pleased with the color choices for these different styles, however i can not help myself but to look ahead to see what Nike has coming down the pipe for Fall 2011.
What are your opinions about the boots below?

Nike Vapor Superfly III
Here is a close up look of the Super Fly III. Not sure why it is labeled as the next Super Fly because after seeing images around the net, the boot looks like a mirror image of the second version of this Nike elite boot. The boot still has fly wire, sense studs, and carbon fiber outsole.
Only time will tell footy fans. In my opinion, this series needs to be revamped by the Nike development team. The boot has not changed in the past two years and Nike Football fans are ready for something else/new.

Is the Nike Superfly dead?
With adidas releasing the prime at a somewhat high price at $300 Nike and the rest of the vapor series have taken a back seat in the innovation kitchen. In my opinion, the superfly is dead and to increase demand for the boots I think Nike need to look within and more specifically brand Jordan. Make the superfly that boot that is released in crazy cool color ways but make it a limited launch and maybe only the first 1000 consumers get a pair. Why use this business model? Well if I remember from economics you need to have demand for a product to be a successful product. By limiting the amount sold it will increase demand... In the end, the superfly is old news, mercurial fans are ready for the next best thing to hit the pitch from Nike. If Nike has cards to play they better play them soon because once the prime comes out next month everyone and anyone will be wearing those boots. Its simple to buy them, as a consumer you are purchasing the lightest boot in the game, there are no negatives to that.
Do you guys like the superfly, what are your impressions/experiences with this boot?

Nike Vapor Superfly III
Keep in mind that these are just hand made samples, but from the looks of it Nike will stick with the same design on the next release of the Superfly series. Besides a change in the color which is expected from Nike it looks like this boot will come in three different colors, include Nike sense studs, fly wire, carbon fiber out sole and teijin microfiber leather.
Changes/Profitability for Superfly III:
Changes/Profitability for Superfly III:
- Take away the Nike sense studs; great idea but poor execution. If the pros are not wearing it then there must be stud pressure, poor traction, etc.
- Make a leather/kanga lite version of the boot. Bring something different to the table.
- Put together a hybrid boot which consists of multiple vapors of the past. Have spoken with many elite players and some of the best vapors in the mercurial silo were the I, II, III version of the boot.
- Make a hyrbid version of the vapor with the Tiempo lite series.
- Drop the price, the hype has faded and there is no longer a demand for a $400 boot.
