Umbro GT Pro II Review

Umbro GT 2 Pro Review

LIKE IF LIKE...

The Good: GT Pro comes in a tidy sleek package that rivals some of the top elite speed boots in the game but is offered at a reasonable price of $150. The GT Pro comes with one of the most stylish/unique paint jobs in the boot game and features teijin microfiber upper, off center lacing and a Poron sock liner which all contribute to it's great fit.

The Bad: Only complaint is at first use the upper is firm/rigid but after one session with the boot the upper broke in very nicely. In the video, it was the first time I ever wore/put on the boots.

The Bottom Line: In terms of overall value the GT Pro is a no brainer because with this boot you get a quality upper along with a fantastic fit at a unbelievable price point. The GT Pro is the most underrated speed boot on the market in my opinion. The boot easily competes and betters the elite speed boots such as the synthetic  adiZERO and Vapor. If you are seeking a unique boot at a realistic price that no one else will have on the pitch then the GT Pro will not disappoint.

Comfort/ Fit: 9/10

Unlike other synthetic speed boots the Umbro GT offers a mixture of speed, protection and comfort while many speed boots offer speed but struggle with the fit and comfort aspect. Pieced together with a microfiber upper and complimented with off center lacing the boots hug your foot to give you a sock like fit and an amazing lock down affect. The upper on this boot hugs your foot, during dribbling the touch of the upper acts as a second skin which is key for a synthetic boot.

The main performance aspect that sets this boot apart from other speed boots is the off center lacing that conforms to your foots natural shape and provides you with a cleaner/bigger striking surface. The off center lacing that I refer to as the athletic fit allows the boot to hug your foot and provides a fit that many speedsters desire. Another aspect that I enjoyed during testing the GT was the flex grooves on the forefoot of the boot. Rather then experience a rigid ride the flex grooves on the outsole allow your foot to flex naturally which I noticed when I sprinted and changed direction. The flex grooves along with the carbon fiber forefoot plate provide stability and are not flimsy like many speed boots I have tested. The feel of this boot is rigid and during the run of play I felt that the boot was light but very supportive which is unique for a speed boot.

Performance: 9/10

Coming in at 8.8 oz the GT Pro may seem heavy compared to the current lightweight standards but to be honest the difference of weight is just a figment of your imagination. If you are quick no matter what boot you are wearing you will still be quick the lightweight boot will only be lighter on your foot but it is the player that makes the boots. I was reminded constantly by my dad growing up that the boots do not make the player, the player makes the boots. That is so true and now days you see too many kids sporting boots that are way flashier then their game. Furthermore, for what the GT lacks in weight it makes up in the supportive feel it provides. Unlike other speed boots the GT Pro provides support and is rigid in just the right spots which I really liked. Too many times with a lot of the speed boots you get a boot that is lightweight but lacks support so with the GT it is a mixture of both speed and comfort.

Aiding to the performance of this boot is the bladed out sole and the deep heel cup on the GT Pro. Both the outsole and the deep heel cup provide a low profile stance on turf that is aggressive but at the same time provides protection and stability. Unlike the vapor or the superfly the GT which has Nike tendencies only has carbon fiber on the forefoot  rather then the whole out sole. By having the carbon fiber plate on only on the forefoot it provides a more comfortable stance/ride on the boot. Many consumers including myself feel that the Vapor/Superfly are very rigid but like I have stated the GT Pro is a happy medium and feels very comfortable compared to the Vapor series. The GT Pro may not be the lightest speed boot but it's stability and weight provide a unique combination of speed and comfort which is a point of difference compared to the other speed boots on the market.

Value: 9/10

In terms of overall value, based on comfort and performance this boot so far has been the best boot I have tested. I can not believe the price point of this boot! At $150 you can walk away with a boot which in my opinion is easily a $200 boot and maybe more because of the fit and the unique make up/style this boot offers. With the GT Pro, Umbro have created a boot for the modern day game at a very reasonable price. The GT Pro has a unique style which is a big seller in it's self along with a quality upper, sock like fit, and a light weight feel make it a no brainer for the player looking for a durable boot at a reasonable price. This boot easily compares and rivals the adiPOWER Predator SL and adiZERO in terms of it's performance and comfort. Did I mention that is boot only retails for $150 which is a steal for what this boot has to offer. Do not be like everyone else on the pitch and have the same purple/pink boots, be different and give the GT Pro a try.

Umbro releases yellow Umbro GT PRO

In my opinion, the Umbro GT Pro is one of the most underated speed boots in the market. Partly due to the lack of marketing and on field presense many consumers do not know much about the the speed boot. The boots weighs in at 8.3 oz but feels much lighter on the pitch. I tested these boots for about three months in games and training and they are awesome in terms of fit, performance, and overall value. At the moment, you can pick these boots up at soccer.com for under $80. On this boot which is infused with old and new technology Umbro created the ideal offordable speed boot made for the modern game. This yellow/black/silver color way was recently released and i must say it is an awesome looking boot. For my review on the boot check it out here; Umbro GT Pro Review

Umbro GT Pro Review

The Good: With this boot Umbro release their first ever speed boot to the market, infused with current Nike technology while keeping the boot under $200 makes this boot one of the most underrated on the market based on comfort, performance, and value.

The Bad: Hard to break in, narrow last, & pressure points on the A Frame Cradle technology.

The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a speed boot that offers great value, comfort, and performance without breaking the bank then the Umbro GT Pro is the boot for you.

Footy Guru Rating:
Comfort/fit: 8/10
Performance: 9/10
Value: 8/10
Total: 8.3 (Excellent)

Since being taken over by Nike, Umbro have made a splash in the soccer boot market in recent months with boots such as the reinvented Umbro Speciali and the Stealth Pro after being left in the dark for what seemed like decades. However, Umbro have come out with their newest boot, the GT Pro that I have been testing the past four months. In addition, these boots are the lightest that Umbro have ever made at 8.3 oz. and some of the features that they boast are a Teijin Microfiber upper which reduces the overall weight of the boot. Along with the ‘A Frame Cradle’ technology that acts as a support system, similar to Flywire connecting the soleplate up along either side of the boot to the laces, so that you have more support and it brings the boot closer to your foot.

Breaking In:
When I first bought these boots I was a little skeptical, but after testing them I admit I am now a huge fan. At first the synthetic upper was firm and I felt moderate stiffness but as the training session went on the upper started to give more and more. I recommend that before you wear these in a match to break them in with a couple of training sessions. Most of the time with synthetic boots it takes time to break them in so be patient. With these boots for example, the more hours I put in the boots the more comfortable these boots felt. Throughout my games and matches which totaled up to more than forty hours of testing the boots kept their shape and did not fall apart which is rare for a speed boot. In addition, with these boots I noticed they ran a little long in length, so in my case I purchased a size US 8.5 instead of a US 9.

Comfort/fit:
Like most speed boots the GT Pro has a narrow last and weighs a staggering 8.3 oz. It may not be the lightest boot on the market, but in terms of price, style and comfort I believe Umbro have produced/introduced a banger of a boot to the market. One component that really liked about the boot was the cradle technology which helped keep my foot from sliding from side to side which you sometimes get from a vapor depending on your foot shape. With the cradle technology, the boots felt as if they were slippers due to the support, narrow shape of the boot, and the way the upper wrapped around your foot once it was broken in.

Performance:
The boots were stylish, easy to break in and extremely effective on the field. With this boot, Umbro have done all of the little things right. The technology, style, comfort and price of this boot make it one of the most under rated speed boots on the market in my opinion. All around, the combination of the light Teijin Microfiber upper, cradle technology, along with the narrow last makes the Umbro GT Pro the ideal lightweight performance product built for speed.

Value:
The GT Pro is a blend of the classic Umbro look injected with Nike’s bold color ways and newest footwear technology. In the end, if you are looking for a speed boot that will not break the bank, the GT Pro based on comfort/fit, performance, and overall value is one of the best boots you can get. As of now, you can get these boots for under $80 which is an unbelievable low price.

The Jordan of Football Boots; Umbro Akusereita SJ 2s. "WANTED BY FOOTY GURU"

All footballers have that one boot that got away. The boot that looking back was the best boot you had ever layed your eyes on or better yet worn. The boot you wished you would have purchased, the boot you purchased you wished you never worn. I have had many boots that i wished i would have never worn or boots that i regret buying because of the then too expensive price tag.
Well one of the boots that i have yet to see in person but am dearly in love with is a boot called the Umbro Akusereita SJ 2s. The boot is for some reason only sold in Japan and in my opinion i believe it is the Jordan of Football boots because like Brand Jordan does with its sneakers, Umbro have replicated this philosophy by combining three of Umbro's most successful boots into a hybrid boot which is bread and butter. Call me old school but I have always been a fan of Umbro products, there is just something about that diamond inside a diamond that gets me every time. At the moment, like i stated a couple weeks ago my favorite boot at the moment is the UMBRO GT PRO, which I am wearing right now. In terms of style, price, comfort, and durability there is no better boot on the market.

What makes the Umbro Akusereita SJ 2s so unique?

It is a boot specifically designed for the far east market. Unlike North America or other parts of the world, the far east is a unique market and due to its large size boot companies design/cater different boots to fit the need/wants of that particular demographic which is often times based on price, technology and what environment/playing surfaces these markets are playing on. That being said, what is popular in the USA or Europe might not be as popular in the far east because it is a totally different market.

  • Features the soft k-leather upper of the Speciali

  • The Heel Counter of the Stealth Pro

  • The A-Frame/technology of the GT PRO

In the end, what do you think about the this boot and the idea of taking several different boots/technologies and combining them into a hybrid boot? Would love to see Nike do this with the Vapor series and adidas use this thinking with the next Predator.

UMBRO GT PRO SPOT!

Darren Bent who is the endorser of the Umbro GT which I reviewed weeks ago sported the new color way this past weekend...The Black Cat’s striker was in the GT to showcase their new color way as they made their debut. Not a lot of people know about these boots or have taken a chance on these boots but in my opinion i believe these boots are one of the most underrated speed boots on the market in terms of comfort, style, and value. The boots look amazing on the pitch and you can but your dollars that i am picking these boot up!

Footy Guru Review of the Umbro GT Pro:

Changes in performance/profitability:
Put this boot in soccer specialty stores, throughout North America.
Come out with more bold/flashy color ways to get consumers interested. Would be cool in an England or Ireland color way.
Product placement: Put this boot on more professional players.
Change in upper for different ball feel; kanga-lite or k-leather maybe.
Carbon fiber outsole to decrease weight of boot even more.
Make a hybrid version of the GT Pro and Super Fly. An elite combination of Umbro and Nike Football.

      Umbro GT Pro

Introducing Umbro's first speed boot; the super-lighweight GTPro, the lightest boots they've ever made weighing just 236 grams.

The Umbro GT Pro, which I believe is one of the most under rated speed boots on the market was just released in a new colorway; lime/black. I have been testing this boot for the past two months and love the style, weight, and comfort of the boot.
      Check out the boots!
