“Fitting with Tiempo tradition, the Tiempo Legend V is a
product of pinnacle craftsmanship employing modern technologies without
sacrificing the classic look.”
Nike Football has come a long way since 1994 and so has the
Tiempo silo. Along with the boots the game has also changed and is faster than ever
and many times we play footy in some very harsh and wet conditions. With this
in mind, and with the input of athletes such as Carlos Tevez, Gerard Pique, and
Ronaldinho, Nike Football connected the legacy of Tiempo aka the OG 94' Tiempo with the needs of the
modern game to create the best leather football boot to-date. For the past
couple years Nike Football has continued to make the Tiempo kangaroo leather
which in terms of touch, durability and feel is so hard to replicate in any
other synthetic boot. Leather in my opinion will always be around because of
the fit and feel it provides compared to synthetic boots.
Whats so new about the new Nike Tiempo Legend V?
With the development Tiempo Legend V Nike has
focused on improving touch, fit and water absorption. One of the worst thing
about a leather boot especially kangaroo leather is how much the boot changes
shape and how much water it absorbs throughout a game. Furthermore, to combat
the soggy boot feel Nike has used new innovative materials to decrease water
absorption all while improving the fit and feel of the boot. With this new fit,
which is actually the same last the Hypervenom is built on it allows the boot
to fit closer to the natural shape of your foot without having any dead spots
in the boot. With the new reconfigured last along with a two layer upper on the
boot the Tiempo V is built to improve fit, touch and hopefully hold less water/absorption.
Another new addition to the boot is the Hypershield
technology, which blocks moisture for a snug fit that lasts and allows for a
constant touch regardless of weather. This is a very important upgrade because
with previous models the Tiempo soaked up so much water and lost its form/fit
very quickly. With this release Nike
really tried to improve the lack of water the boot absorbs because they know
that in wet conditions many times at all levels of the game leather boots are
thought of as inferior because of the affect water has on the overall boots
performance.
Another point of difference on the new Tiempo boot is the
outsole flex. Many times a boot may have an awesome upper but has a very firm
flex which results in stud pressure or a very uncomfortable ride for boot nerds.
With this new setup, Nike took insight from Nike Free technology, the outsole
plate flexes from the midfoot to offer increased movement and comfort.
Another big change is that the boots will increase in price $200 which will be interesting to see how Tiempo consumers react to the $50 increase. But in terms of performance and specs it seams as if Nike addressed the ares that are common with leather boots and really tried to improve and innovate one of the best heritage boots around.
